Sitting Pretty

It has been 19 months since Ate May posted on her blog. Days after she wrote her last blog titled "House Arrest", she had a very bad fall my mom was almost sure she hit her head on the cement step. The Lord cushioned her fall and she hit her shoulder instead. It took three persons to move her from where she fell to her bed. That was the last you all heard from her.

That event signaled that ALS is advancing. She completely stopped using the computer and she had to be fed by my mother. I had to listen so carefully when I talk to her on the phone, I was in San Diego until October 2nd of 2008. Pictures of her 50th birthday organized by my cousins were depressing as her body continue to atrophy.
I went home on October 2nd, 2008 and witnessed for myself how my Ate’s condition progressed. Though I chatted with her and saw her several times in YM, it is still different to see her in that condition in person. But I am surely glad the Lord brought me and my husband back home to be with her at this time.
These days, she sits most of the day on her wheelchair, but a few visitors commented how she retains her beauty, both in and out despite ALS. Her quiet and peaceful spirit endures the pain and the limitations brought by ALS on her.
For many of you who will not be able to see her in person, I am posting her most recent picture with our one and only nephew, Ian.

Hi Nina. It's nice that you continued your sister's blog. Despite the ALS, your sister shows her true spirit in her smile -- beautiful!! Will continue to pray for her. God bless!

BTW, I just read your sister's blog and my heart was touched causing me to cry. Now I understand how my Mom was... what thoughts she might have had, her pains and sufferings. Because since she was deteriorating by the end of 2004 she could not talk anymore. She had mini strokes and mild heart attacks months/ years before the time she was diagnosed of ALS.

Dinalaw ko si ate may and she stl looks very pretty. Maaliwalas ang mukha, makinis ang balat at tawa sya ng tawa sa mga stories ko. Sabi ko nga, super payat lang sya but looking good.God's grace s really amazing. I prayed for her before I left really asking God for the best

Dear Ate May,

Hello! I passed by your home this morning. Sorry i was absent for the past several weeks duue to activities at PCU and MJ. And the typhoons which brought flooding in this little corner of Tondo.
Anyway I am back to the circulation.

I agree with the title, Ms. Sitting Pretty! Yes you are sitting pretty, pretty much at peace with your God, pretty much dependent on His provisions, pretty much happy with the love of family and friends.

I reviewed what you have written in your blog and wondered, maybe we can do going to MOA again. Or maybe this time we can try Trinoma and the new SM North Sky Garden. Now that you are ms sitting pretty, and not to mention you are lighter in weight, why not. Let us be daring and enjoy a cup of yogurt.

Love yah,
edna

thanks so much for sharing... truly is a great reminder to always keep a thankful heart before the LORD - for the things we normally take for granted and for the adversities He has uniquely assigned for each of us

Hello my friend! I am now back in Georgia, but still have many thoughts of my visit with you. Ate (Vi), Len, Bootz, and I were so glad to see you, Kuya Ding, and Nanay. Sayang, namiss namin si Nina. Thank you for laughing with us, especially about your Caloocan High experiences. We loved seeing your sweet smile again, the same one I remember from our childhood days at Caloocan Unida.

We love you and are praying for God's grace to sustain you.
